How Can I
Become A
Volunteer?
There are an estimated 6000 dogs in Curaçao and that number is growing at a rate of hundreds of dogs year. The fact is, there are thousands of dogs being killed every year because they’ve gotten lost or have been abandoned because their owners can no longer afford to keep them. That’s why we at Animals are our Friends are here to stop this unnecessary dog euthanasia and we need your help to volunteer.

How do I become a volunteer?
Volunteers are required to attend two weeks of training. Training consists of learning how to handle
dogs, handling emergency situations, and giving basic instructions. A background check is
performed at the beginning to ensure that the applicant has a good standing. If you meet the
requirements, you will be given a trial run. At the end of the trial run, you will receive an official

What does a Dog Shelter Volunteer do?
Dog Shelter Volunteer works at the local animal shelter and helps animals who need medical care, food, water, or a place to sleep. Volunteers help dogs who are sick, injured, or abandoned. Volunteers may clean cages, walk pets, feed pets, and socialize them. Volunteers may also help with adoption events or fundraisers, such as hosting bake sales or yard sales.
